At St. Mark`s Church Westlands, the Teens Mission is to respond to the social and spiritual needs of our Teens by providing spirit filled programs, activities, and events that will allow them to express their faith as they encounter Christ and deepen their love for church and community. Our Ministry demographic are young people between 13-21 years of age!
The Rites Of Passage Experiences by TANARI TRUST class is for all children graduating from Sunday, aged between 13-15 years before joining the Teens Class. Normally, we have class that begins in February every Sunday until end of October. This program is a year-long program facilitating transitions from one stage of life to another within the church community. Here, candidates are, given a clear sense of their roles, responsibilities, while also preparing them, and provide structures for accountability and support.
Parents of the candidates are mobilized and challenged to take roles in the, program. The candidates too are, taken through a year of instruction and experiences appropriate to their transition, drawn from the best of theology and social science knowledge preceding an experiential camp.
The Teens ministry draws its purpose form 2 Timothy 2:20-21, with the Christian hope that young people at St. Marks Westlands will have motives that shape their philosophy, built on the solid bedrock of biblical theology to stand firm in their faith amid a changing world.
This service is purely a High School Service for Teens between 14-18 years of age. This generation of young people we have been, called to serve is a very peculiar generation. With multiple challenges of unfettered exposure to media and unlimited influences, trying to influence their thinking has completely altered the landscape of ministry. Therefore, in our Sunday programming we bring dynamism and are extremely explorative keeping the Gospel as the only constant thing.
This is purely a year-long, discipleship program that offers an opportunity for High School graduates to engage in a Journey of self-discovery. Being a time of significant transition from high school to University, normally their roles and responsibilities are going change irrevocably and they will need to know how to handle the changes. Fundamentally, it is, geared towards orienting High school graduates into becoming contributing members community/society aligned to their God given abilities (Gifts), interests and potential. This discipleship program also aim at building once competence to handle challenges in life; sharpen their connections i.e people skills; enhance their confidence to surmount life challenges and most importantly instill character through God`s word and become Christ like.
Participants on this program are also exposed through practical and challenging but affirming experiences that give them the right skills mix to become responsible for their life`s journey.
Under the Teens Ministry Department, we have a vibrant School Ministry that goes on every Sunday at Westlands Primary and visa Oshwal Primary School. As a church and as a department, we believe it is a means of Evangelism and Discipleship. Biblically, education is discipleship. It shapes what a child believes and who a child becomes.
As a department, Christian education plays a critical role in proclaiming the gospel to children, immersing children in gospel truth, training children for gospel living, and sending out children to transform culture through the power of the gospel in the schools. Like Paul, he reminds us of the critical importance of the centrality of Scripture in the education of children: “From childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus” (2 Tim. 3:15). Therefore, as a church we cannot separate ourselves from teaching Christian education to the next generation.
